Overview of Enneagram One

Type Ones are principled, deliberate, restrained, and idealistic. We are drawn to Type 1s as friends and loved ones because they are honorable and committed to a life of improving what is around them with integrity. They have a desire to be good, to have integrity, and to be balanced.

Type 1s notice errors and areas for improvement, which causes them to constantly see what they would do differently. At times, their desire to fix or improve things can come off as judgmental to others.

Type 1s have a loud internal critic that is relentless and berating. The inner critic is a very defining characteristic for the Type 1. Some that identify with the Type 1 personality structure immediately know what’s being reference when they first learn about the loud “inner critic” whereas others aren’t able to label the voice of the inner critic right away.
