Overview of Enneagram Five

Type Five is observant, insightful, private, and detached. We are drawn to Type 5s because they have a depth of knowledge and willingly share their understandings with others for everyone’s betterment. They have a desire to be capable and competent.
Type 5s like to first observe before participating and they appreciate extended periods of time where they can be alone. They see themselves as rational thinkers, and tend to think those that disagree with them are irrational.
They desire to be independent and do so by acquiring adequate resources (information, material goods, skills, etc.) so that they never have to depend on others to take care of them. The problem though is that truly meaningful relationships require a level of interdependence where you are allowing yourself to depend on others and for others to depend on you.
